ARROWCREEK PICKLEBALL CLUB KICKS OFF 2017 WITH TWO TOURNAMENTS
The ArrowCreek Pickleball Club (ACPC), established in October of 2016, kicked off the 2017 season with recreational and competitive double elimination tournaments on June 4th. The new pickleball courts were in pristine shape to host the 26 club member participants. Players enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and battled some breezy conditions during this first ACPC sponsored event.
There were some incredible rallies, close games, and new friendships made by the end of the day. The winning team of the recreational tournament was Linda Chedwick and Nick Sharp. Runners up were Don and Lea Unruh. The winners of the competitive tournament were the team of Carol Zwick and Kathy Johanson. Runners up were Vicky Sharp and Robin Rakusin. A special thank you to local businesses who donated prizes for this event: Archer Magazine, Cinemark Theaters, and the Atlantis Casino.
The ArrowCreek Pickleball Club has grown quickly to 60 members and expects that number to grow to triple digits within the next year. On June 4th 2017, the Chicago Tribune stated that, “In the USA there are about two or three million players now. It is projected by 2018 it will be up to eight million.” If you are interested in learning how to play pickleball, or would like information about joining the ArrowCreek Pickleball Club, you can contact the ACPC president Kate Whittley at acpickleball@gmail.com or visit their website at http://www.acpc.clubexpress.com which will be available this July.
